Unpaid staff members make up the majority of Itgel’s personnel, allowing our financial resources to be directed to direct project costs. As such, volunteers play a significant role in The Itgel Foundation, and take on leadership positions in all our endeavors. Senior-level professionals such as veterinarians, researchers, and development workers contribute valuable expertise, advising, and field staffing. Graduate and undergraduate students conduct ground-breaking field work and often receive academic credit for their volunteer service with Itgel. Mid-career adults bring diverse skills and insights to the table both in the field and as “virtual volunteers.”

Itgel’s volunteers have a wide variety of academic and professional backgrounds, range in age from 18-69, and have hailed from nearly a dozen different countries. Successful volunteers have a specific interest in one or more of Itgel’s activities or projects, and have ideas about how they see themselves fitting into the organization. Some volunteer positions are field-based in Mongolia, while others allow volunteers to work virtually from anywhere in the world.

Itgel recruits volunteers for specific assignments, and also accepts applications from unsolicited prospective volunteers who possess needed skills (see below). Applications are processed on a rolling, as needed basis.

Benefits of Volunteering:

  • Academic or internship credit
  • Publication potential
  • Valuable learning experiences
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Opportunities for personal grant support
  • Travel opportunities
